About us

The UPES Library, with its wide range of collection of knowledge resources and innovative information services, fills an essential requisite in the intellectual pursuits of our students, faculty and the surrounding community. UPES Library, a hybrid Centre with the state-of-the-art technological applications holds knowledge resources predominantly related to engineering, science & technology, management, law, Allied Health Science and allied subjects. The entire collection of books, print journals/magazines along with its wide range of e-collection including e-journals, e-books, online databases, non-book materials etc., are accessible through the Institute network. Our mission is to facilitate convenient and user-friendly access to current, global and relevant information by identifying, acquiring, organizing and retrieving information in various formats (print & non-print) to serve the information needs of the academic fraternity of UPES to meet their teaching, research, consulting, training and learning requirements.

The Library building at Bidholi Campus has a sprawling space of about 22465 sq. ft, School of Law (SOL) Library of about 5000 sq. ft. and School of Business (SOB) of about 6500 sq. ft, with central air-conditioning and designated areas for different sections of the library, providing the right ambiance for reading and reflection. The broad objectives are:


   To build a state-of-the-art knowledge resources centre for Engineering, management, Law and allied subjects
   To acquire need-based resources to meet information requirements of the academic community of the Institute; and,
   To provide proactive and innovative information services to the academic community.
   To provide modern tools for accessing information.
   To disseminate up-to-date technical knowledge.
   To network with leading libraries.

Library Resource

The Library has a collection of 1.90 Lakhs+ printed text books, and 2.10 Lakhs+ e-books at both the campuses, relevant to the curriculum and for research needs. Full text of over 50000+ e-journals and e-proceedings and 170 print journals+ are available at both the campuses, in the areas of Science & Technology, Engineering, Management, Law and other allied areas to meet the research requirements of all kinds of users. In a short span of time, the library has acquired over 56 databases to cater to the different needs of our users. Library has developed strong collection of Career Resources that help students to prepare for interviews in various industry sectors. Also, equipped with few rare books, special reports and Havard Business Review special collection.

Library Collection

With the excellent blend of print and electronic resources in the form of books, journals, databases, technical reports, and standards, the library collection is one of the finest in the region particularly in the field of engineering, management, and Legal studies. This rich and valuable collection built over the period of last few years has some of the valuable reference materials and several important journals. The total print and e-book collection of the library exceeds over 3 lakh+ volumes.

Library Services

The library offers traditional services such as Reference Service, Referral Service, User Guidance Service, Cataloguing and Classification Service, Circulation Service including Inter Library Loan and Document Delivery Service, Weekly display of recent additions of periodicals and books, Bibliographic Service, Digitization of document, scanning service, and Specialized services such as digital repository services for UPES publications & theses, Web based Online Public Access Catalog ( Web OPAC). IP authenticated access subscribed e-journals, e-books and databases, remote access to e-resources. Information literary services such as Library orientations, Subscribed resource demo and training sessions, and Trial access to e-journals and databases etc. The library has been using KOHA, a Opensource Web-based Integrated Library Management software for its housekeeping operations. The library Online Catalogue database has more than 3 lakh+ records of Bibliographic Information. Using OPAC, users can search the Library Online Catalogue by Author, Title, Subject, and keywords. Also, the users can know the latest additions of periodicals and books and the status of a document (whether on shelf or on issue). OPAC is accessible on the Web and reservation and renewal of a book can be done Online.

Institutional Membership of learned bodies

The library has the institutional membership of three national-level organisations

  • eShodh Sindhu Consortium - The library is part of eShodh Sindhu Consoritum, a national level consortium of higher educational institutions affiliated with University Grants Commissions.
  • DELNET, New Delhi - The library has an institutional membership of Developing Library Network (DELNET). In addition to other services, it facilitates the interlibrary document delivery service amongst its institutional library members.
  • ShodhGanga - ShodhGanga a national level initiative of Information Library Network (INFLIBNET), Ahmedabad offers centralized online theses hosting facility to higher education institutions of India. Education institutions can deposit a copy of PhD theses produced in these institutions in ShodhGanga to showcase and enhance the visibility of their respective research activities.
